As the Northern Pacific railroad construction inched west and east, small towns grew around the construction including, from the north, Heron, Noxon, Trout Creek, White Pine, Belknap, Thompson Falls, Plains, Paradise, Perma, Dixon and others now obliterated from visible signs. Hot Springs and Camas, originally assigned to the Flathead Indians, was divided into homesteads beginning in 1910.
The museum is open daily from Mothers' Day through Labor Day, noon to 4 p.m. Arrangements may be made for a tour at other times by calling.
A small gift shop contains many books written by members of the Society and other books on the history of Northwest Montana. Inexpensive gifts for children are also availab.
