Description

The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art presents five to six exhibitions annually in the main gallery. These exhibitions include works by historic, contemporary and emerging LGBTQ artists. There is also a Window Gallery that brings the work of LGBTQ artists to a public domain to tackle issues of sex, gender, identity, pop culture and more.

Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art has a permanent collection of more than 6,000 objects spanning more than three centuries of queer art, a research library, and publishes The ARCHIVE, a quarterly journal focus on LGBTQ art and artists. LLMGLA is the premier resource for anyone interested in the rich legacy of the LGBTQ community and its influence on and confrontation with the mainstream art world. There is no other organization in the world like us.

History

For more than 20 years, the Leslie/Lohman Gay Art Foundation in New York City, a non-profit organization since 1990, has been a pioneer in its mission to preserve, exhibit and promoting LGBTQ art and artists that includes erotic, political, romantic, and social imagery reflecting queer experience. Our founders, Charles W. Leslie and Fritz Lohman, began supporting and exhibiting gay artists in their Soho loft in 1969. As we move forward, we continue this mission and will expand our programs and outreach to the community with the newly established Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art.
