Description

The Jefferson County Historical Society has been collecting, preserving, and teaching the history of Jefferson County, Nebraska since 1955.

The JCHS office is located in the restored Rock Island Depot in Fairbury, Nebraska. This building also houses the Rock Island Railroad Museum. In addition to the museum, displays and artifacts are showcased at several of the other historic sites.

Artifact Collections

Today, JCHS owns and maintains nine historic properties throughout Jefferson County, Nebraska including:

-The Rock Island Railroad Museum, Fairbury, NE
-District 10 Schoolhouse, Alexandria, NE
-W.C. Smith House and Lime Kiln, rural Fairbury, NE
-The Diller Bank Museum, Diller, NE
-Steele City Historic District, Steele City, NE
